To conclude, we highlight several successful models of health services that successfully integrate psychosocial care into standard oncology care practices. In conclusion, our innovative model, acknowledging both roadblocks and aids, emphasizes the critical role of a motivated mindset in impacting shifts in health-related behaviors. A large health system's retrospective chart review and cross-sectional survey of patients excluded from mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT) outreach programs was carried out to identify cases of colorectal cancer (CRC) with a family history. To examine differences in demographic and clinical characteristics between overdue and non-overdue screening patients, we applied 2, Fisher's exact, and Student's t-tests. A survey was then sent (by mail and phone) to patients with past due appointments, designed to determine barriers and enablers of screening.
Excluding 296 patients from the mailed FIT outreach program, 233 patients exhibited a confirmed family history of colorectal cancer. Subpar screening participation, measured at a low 219%, showed no significant differences in demographics or clinical characteristics between overdue and timely screened individuals. Seventy-nine people completed the survey. According to patient reports, major barriers to undergoing colonoscopy screening involved forgetfulness (359%), fear of pain associated with the colonoscopy (177%), and reluctance regarding the necessary bowel preparation (294%). This new model utilized case-based learning (CBL) in preparation for team-based learning (TBL). In July 2019, first-year medical students were introduced to the conceptual underpinnings of the revised curriculum.
